what kinds of things people say

i have noticed that, when in transient public spaces, people say things that help them anchor themselves in space and/or time. perhaps b/c they are skittering about on the surface of things, they compensate for their temporary uprootedness by making assertions about where they are: "this is my last break for the day." "last time i ate here by myself." "so then i was back in line and now i've been rerouted."
